Your City, Your Space

Hi, I’m LJ – and I have the joy of coordinating a project called Your City. Your Space.

YCYS is a growing network of community spaces located in the Broadmead & Castle Park areas of central Bristol. At its heart, YCYS is about people. It’s about central Bristol and the lives that flow through it every day – stories, struggles, creativity, hope. My story has involved a deep struggle to find spaces and communities where I could authentically be my raw, honest self and my hope is that YCYS can provide spaces of welcome and inclusion for the wonderfully diverse people of Bristol.

My first commitment is to listen: to really hear what matters to those who call this city home, or who pass through it often. Before programmes or plans, before spaces or strategies, YCYS begins with a posture of openness and relationship. As part of this, we strive to be open to partnership and collaboration wherever possible, believing that we hold more power in working together than apart.

This project isn’t about fixing something for the city, but growing something with it. My hope is that YCYS becomes a shared journey – a network of connection and belonging shaped by the voices of local people. I dream of a city centre where everyone feels seen, welcomed, and part of something bigger than themselves – where diverse experiences are honoured and where community can take root in all kinds of ways.
